At the high school level, NAQT quiz bowl is a competitive, academic, interscholastic activity for which players attend periodic practices and then represent their school at varsity tournaments.
Quiz bowl questions range over the entire spectrum of a high school curriculum and also include a certain amount of current events, sports, and popular culture. The matches feature a blend of individual competition and team collaboration, since no individual player is likely to be an expert in all subject areas. Quiz bowl can reinforce classroom lessons and also encourage players to go beyond their assignments to master other areas as well.
Students in all grades are welcome to participate in quiz bowls held at Carnegie Mellon University throughout the year. Teams typically consist of four students and two alternates. Multiple teams can participate in quiz bowls. All quiz bowls will be held on Saturdays and practices are held in room 304 Z in Zupancic Family STEM Center once a week. Students on the Quiz Bowl team also have the opportunity to participate in Hometown High Q on KDKA-TV.
