Viking of the Week: Raiquan Nelson, ’27
Raiquan Nelson ’27 is often described by others as “a ray of sunshine,” and anyone who has spent time around him would agree the tagline fits. Ray brings a steady optimism and positive energy to everything he does, whether in the classroom, at practice, or through his leadership roles.
Ray has a genuine passion for leadership and isn’t afraid to take on a challenge. His decision to run for state office in FBLA speaks volumes about his initiative and commitment. Anyone who understands the time and effort required to campaign, knows it demands serious time-management and dedication. Raiquan has embraced that responsibility with focus and determination, serving as a role model for others in the club and throughout the school. Ray will find out when he travels to Hershey next month with FBLA if his hard work has paid off.
In the classroom, Raiquan consistently demonstrates maturity, responsibility, and respect. He conducts himself with humility, never seeking attention for the wrong reasons, while maintaining an upbeat and positive demeanor. Teachers describe him as trustworthy, enjoyable to be around, and someone who rises to the occasion when motivated to achieve a goal. He approaches his commitments with intention and follows through.
Beyond academics and FBLA, Raiquan is actively involved in Crew and Bowling, balancing athletics with leadership and scholarship. He manages his time well, keeps his priorities straight, and remains grounded through it all.
Earnest, down-to-earth, and immensely likeable, Ray is the kind of young man who leaves a positive impression wherever he goes. His leadership, humility, and drive make him more than deserving of recognition as Viking of the Week.
