Viking of the Week: Patrick McQuiggan, ’28
Patrick McQuiggan ’28 is the kind of student whose presence you feel the moment he walks into a room. One teacher described him simply as “a very nice and charismatic student,” and that balance of warmth and confidence defines him. He participates often, is always eager to learn, and brings an energy to class that makes the experience better for everyone.
In Honors World History and beyond, Patrick challenges himself academically. He asks thoughtful, philosophical questions that push discussions further and encourage others to think more critically. He’s not content to coast: he is motivated, engaged, and genuinely invested in understanding the material.
Patrick’s charisma shines in the classroom, but it truly comes alive on stage. An “extremely talented student,” he has performed in the school’s recent productions of The Newsies and Standing Ovation: An Evening with the Ensemble, and will take on the role of Lucas Beinecke in this spring’s production of The Addams Family. He is described as “a standout member of both Chamber Singers and The Masque,” someone whose “incredible voice and ability to act shines on stage.” One teacher called him “a diamond in the rough,” a fitting description for a student whose talent is matched by humility and hard work.
Beyond academics and the arts, Patrick is known for his character. He works hard, strives for excellence, and is “almost bothered by producing anything less than perfection.” Yet that drive never overshadows his kindness. He is the type of student who checks in on classmates, helps when someone is stuck on a tough problem, and makes sure everyone feels comfortable and included. “He listens with patience and speaks with enthusiasm,” one teacher noted, adding that Patrick always tries to find common ground and ensures those around him feel supported.
Patrick is deeply engaged in the life of the school, consistently living out what it means to be a man of faith, scholarship, and service. He is respectful to classmates and teachers alike, always positive, always encouraging. Whether in a discussion, rehearsal, performance, or everyday interaction, Patrick brings life to the room.
A talented singer, dedicated scholar, supportive teammate, and genuinely kind young man, Patrick McQuiggan truly embodies what it means to be Viking of the Week.
