Viking of the Week: Jake Murphy, ’26

Jake Murphy, ’26, has consistently exemplified what it means to be a Viking throughout his four years at Central. Hard-working, caring, and friendly, Jake wears many hats—student, Big Brother, and teammate—and excels in each role.

Faculty members have nothing but praise for “Jake the Great.” In the classroom, he is focused, engaged, and eager to participate. He is never afraid to ask or answer questions and regularly goes above and beyond expectations on assignments. Recently, Jake took part in an English class discussion where he “passionately defended his position and helped explain the concept to another student who was struggling to understand. He offered a thoughtful explanation of free will and engaged in conversation that was both challenging and enlightening, encouraging others to join for deeper understanding.” Jake approaches every class with a smile, a positive attitude, and a genuine desire to learn.

Beyond the classroom, Jake plays a vital role in our community. As a Big Brother, he mentors a small group of freshmen as they transition into high school life. As a Viking Ambassador, he proudly represents Central to prospective students and families. Just last Friday, Jake gave up his day off to volunteer at Viking for a Day, where he guided a group of eighth graders through classes and led them on a campus tour. He arrived early and stayed late to ensure the students had the best possible experience. Jake also serves actively in Lasallian Ministry, always willing to step in and help wherever needed.

On the football field, Jake is a force to be reckoned with. Every Friday night, you’ll find him under the lights, making plays that help drive the Vikings forward. When he’s not on the field, Jake studies previous plays and opponents’ tendencies to strengthen his performance and his team’s strategy. He lifts up his teammates with words of encouragement and sets an example for younger players through his dedication and leadership.

Whether in the classroom, on the field, or in service to others, Jake Murphy embodies the spirit of brotherhood and excellence that defines Central Catholic. For these reasons, we are proud to recognize him as this week’s Viking of the Week.
