Viking of the Week: Chris Hazel, ’27
Chris Hazel ’27 has made an immediate impact this year, both in the classroom and on the baseball field. Whether he’s in left field under the lights or in a classroom discussion, Chris brings energy, focus, and a genuine enthusiasm that others naturally respond to.
On the field, Chris has started every game in left field to open the 2026 season, setting the tone for his team with the way he plays. Coaches describe him as “the type of young man you want to build a baseball team around,” pointing not just to his talent, but to his mindset and approach. He plays with a fire: bringing hustle, toughness, and a “leave it all on the field” attitude to every practice and game. Just as importantly, he leads with both accountability and respect, holding his teammates to a high standard while supporting them along the way. His energy and presence provide a spark for the team, and it’s clear he is trusted, beloved, and respected by those around him.
That same approach carries into the classroom. Chris is upbeat, engaged, and consistently ready to contribute. Teachers note that he “gives his all in every class,” actively participating in discussions, labs, and group work. He isn’t afraid to ask questions when something is unclear, which not only helps him grow but benefits his classmates as well. His positive attitude and enthusiasm make him a welcome presence in any room, and he’s the kind of student who takes the time to greet others and bring a little extra energy to the day.
Beyond his performance and participation, Chris stands out for his character. He is described as honest, genuine, and respectful—someone who leads by example and treats others the right way. Whether it’s his generosity in supporting school initiatives or simply the way he interacts with teachers and peers, Chris consistently reflects the values that define the Central Catholic community.
Chris Hazel represents what it means to be a true student-athlete: hardworking, positive, and committed to those around him. For his leadership, effort, and the energy he brings to both the classroom and the baseball field, we are honored to recognize him as this week’s Viking of the Week.
