Safe Environment

The Diocese of Pittsburgh Safe Environment Policy was created to take reasonable measures to ensure that personnel with regular contact with minors are committed to providing a safe environment for children and youth, are capable of identifying and preventing abuse of children, and have no personal history of behavior that would be a threat to children.

The Safe Environment Policy applies to all personnel who have regular contact with minors. Church personnel is defined as all adult persons (those 18 years of age or older) including clergy, members of consecrated life, laity, including employees or volunteers.

Clearances must be 100% completed and submitted to the Safe Environment Coordinator before any interaction with Central Catholic students including (but not limited to): practice, game, training, meeting, etc. 

If you have already volunteered within the Diocese of Pittsburgh at another church or school, please email safeenvironment@centralcatholichs.com. Please include the name of your former church or school.   To begin the clearance process, please reach out to the Safe Environment Coordinator for instructions at safeenvironment@centralcatholichs.com. 

The Diocese of Pittsburgh requires that all volunteers and employees comply with the Safe Environment Policy, which includes the following:

All School Volunteers must complete:

  1. VIRTUS Online Safe Environment Database Registration
  2. PA Child Abuse Clearance for Volunteer Purposes
  3. FBI Fingerprint Clearance or Waiver
  4. Protecting God’s Children
  5. Mandated Reporter Training
  6. Signed Code of Pastoral Conduct
  7. Signed Child Protective Services Law

All School Employees must complete:

  1. VIRTUS Online Safe Environment Database Registration
  2. PA Child Abuse Clearance for Volunteer Purposes
  3. FBI Fingerprint Clearance using Code 1KG6TR
  4. Protecting God’s Children
  5. Mandated Reporter Training
  6. Signed Code of Pastoral Conduct
  7. Signed Child Protective Services Law
  8. Signed Act 24
  9. Completed Act 168 for every location previously working with minors
