What is BAM!?

BAM! (Because Academics Matter) is Central Catholic’s Academic Summer Enrichment Program for boys entering the 7th and 8th grades. The two-week camp ties the rigorous academics of Central Catholic with a fun and engaging environment in a state of the art facility. The courses and activities are designed to show students what high school is like in a college preparatory setting while creating excitement and curiosity for deeper learning.

The BAM curriculum is centered on improving mathematics and writing skills while giving students the opportunity to explore interests in STEM fields. Every student will participate in two weeks worth of mathematics and writing in preparation for the rigors of high school. They will also be able to choose two electives from our four offerings: Robotics Challenge, 3D Design and Printing, CSI-Central, and Engineering Solutions. Our highly trained and distinguished faculty excels in engaging students in their content areas through hands-on and applicable instruction. Their instruction will help your son to become ready for the next stage in his academic career. Space is limited; sign up now to reserve your spot.

BAM! Course Descriptions

In addition to a mathematics and writing course, students will have the option of choosing any two of the four electives offered. No student is guaranteed their first and second choices, but we will do our best to match their schedules with their choices.

Robotics Challenge – Can you navigate through a maze? Can you destroy an opponent? Can you someday save a life? Students will work with Lego NXT robots to learn how computer programming and code generation relate to robotics and how robotics is used to solve problems every day in the world around us.

3D Design and Printing – Do you want first hand experience in cutting edge design and manufacturing?  In this course, students will design projects using computers and 3D modeling software, learning the fundamentals of three-dimensional design.  They will then use the process of additive manufacturing to physically create their projects using 3D printers.

CSI Central – Can you solve the crime? Being a forensic scientist involves gathering evidence, performing various tests and using prior knowledge from various disciplines to solve a crime.  Students will use biology, chemistry, physics and math to find out "whodunnit?"

Engineering Solutions – Apply your creative thinking toward a problem. Can you engineer the best solution?  In this course, students will learn the fundamentals of the engineering process through a series of hands-on activities and projects.  This course will put students' creativity and critical thinking skills to the test.

BAM! ends each day at 1:00PM, but the fun doesn’t have to stop there. Campers have the opportunity to extend their time with our optional afternoon activities. These activities are in addition to the 9:00AM – 1:00PM camp and come at an added cost. Campers can train like a high school student in one of our Athletic camps, or explore new content in our Academic camps.

Optional Afternoon Add-ons

Space is limited in each of these camps, so there is no guarantee that your spot is reserved until you receive confirmation.
