    Latino Outreach

    Provided for those of Latino heritage living and working in the South Oakland area. Tutoring in ESL and basic reading, writing, and arithmetic is provided to youth and young adults. Offered every week.

    Greater Pittsburgh Area Food Bank

    Offered to students who wish to learn the ways in which the Pittsburgh community attempts to alleviate hunger. Students will sort food at the main warehouse sites to prepare food product for distribution. This is done through the Produce to People branches of the Pittsburgh Area Food Bank. Offered one to two times a month.

    Jubilee Kitchen

    Students at this site work with the Day Care Division tutoring grade school children. This is offered Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, from 2:45-4:30. In addition there will several occasions throughout the school year when students will work on preparing meals for the homeless.

    Operation Safety Net

    This year there will be two service projects that focus on the Homeless of Pittsburgh during the winter months.

    Pittsburgh Association for the Blind

    On at least one occasion students will be invited to help prepare meals for the Blind on a Saturday evening.

    St. Mary of Mercy’s Red Door

    Students at this site will prepare and hand out lunches to the homeless of downtown Pittsburgh.

    Athletic Teams

    This year there will be a concerted effort to give each athletic team a service project.

    Nicaragua Project

    A week in the summer which enables students to work with Latinos from Nicaragua. Students will live, eat, and work with Nicaraguan families and the Christian Brothers. The experience provides the opportunity to live directly with those in abject poverty and destitution.
